Going, going, going, going, gone.....almost!

I took these photos to record my struggles removing a large, old shrub this week. The main problem was the rubble and stones in the soil which the roots had wedged around, making it awkward to get a spade or saw in. Now, given the soil is back almost level and I still have a wheelbarrow full of soil, how come I managed to remove the volume of stones (32 plant pots full), bricks and large root ball in the last photo?

I went into town early this morning to the butchers, bakers and greengrocers. I was pleased to see everyone was wearing a mask. Speaking to another shopkeeper in the queue, she said it was the tourists that weren't complying and complaining about it.
