Maternity hospital on the hill

This pic is taken from a step into the facade of what used to be the Rottenrow Maternity Hospital in Glasgow. The facade has been retained and there's a landscape garden effect on the level below. The hospital (Rottenrow - what a name too) was demolished a few years ago but the facade remains and it's quite a dramatic scene at times. The location manager of 'Taggart' recognised this, as the university building to the right was used as police HQ.

I work around the corner, and it's one of the steepest hills in the city. And yes, I did say it's a former maternity hospital. Cracking location for that - pregnant mothers used to struggle up (and down) Montrose Street to the right. I lost a baby brother there, and it was the site of the greatest day of my life, with my daughter born late last century. It's a place full of memories for many. Although the surround can be busy with students at peak uni times, it can be a peaceful little corner with views to the south of the city carrying to hills beyond. In a way I hope nothing is built on the site, as there's too much value in what openness exists.
