What is this?

I have some good followers on blip who I am sure will be happy to oblige me with a well informed answer on this question. It certainly is a beast of a plant and not one that has previously been in my consciousness. It's been a rainy day, so we managed a short walk, a cuppa with a friend and plenty of house chores.
