Forth and Clyde Canal. Netherton Farm Lane
I headed again for the Forth and Clyde Canal near my Sports Centre to capture the new Netherton Farm Lane Housing development. (See 27th January for background canal history.) Netherton was originally a village on its own with a sandstone quarry supplying stone for local building and also exporting to Ireland and the West Indies. However it was completely absorbed into the Glasgow conurbation in the 1920s, and in recent years it has been part of the regeneration around Anniesland with the removal of the industrial estates. Netherton Farm Lane is a cul de sac, so this is a wonderfully peaceful place for dog walkers along the banks, and for water birds. The canal signpost says it's four miles to Spiers Wharf in the City Centre.
Today it was overcast but it had been a very cold night and thin ice was melting at the edges of the water. The stillness created lovely reflections of the warm brickwork. Then two ducks came paddling along just at the right moment. To give a lift to the flat lighting I applied the poster edges filter adjusting the controls for thickness, depth and posterisation till it looked right, and also did some colour temperature adjustment to improve the water from a murky grey to a more pleasing steely grey. I like that the colour palette is restricted basically to four colours - orangey/red, brown, grey and white.
