Curly kale

seems to be growing well and is resistant to invaders. 
I saw a Colorado beetle on the road the other day, which I dispatched summarily. The potatoes seem to be free of them, so far. A few years ago there were lots, enough to put me off growing potatoes until now. 
I opened the flap on the tunnel to encourage friendly insects. Maybe the orb spiders are being too effective.
