Splitting hares!!!

This morning, I saw a hare in the road in the distance. I think it’s the first hare I’ve seen this year.
I stopped the car hoping to get a bit nearer for a photo but it ran away with its pal.
I stopped again a little further on to see if they were in the field but no sign of them.
However, I looked down, and there was one very well hidden in the grass but it was off before I could take a photo.
They ran away into the field and never looked back until they were too far away.
So it goes!
It looks like the hare on the right has a split ear, hence the title.
The extra kind of confirms the split.
