Risk Assessment My Ar$e
At some point someone carried out a risk assessment [RA] for where the Worth Way crosses Wallage Lane. The RA clearly identified a considerable risk to pedestrians crossing the lane. So on both sides of the path, rumble strips were cut into the existing road service and painted bright yellow. The road surface on the approach was painted bright red. Clearly to send a couple of chaps out to carry out this work doesn't come cheap and I would expect some budgetary provision was made for it.
Many years down the line it is clear that maintenance of this "important" road safety measure is not on anyone's radar (or RAs come to that). The rumble strips have lost their rumble and their colour is rapidly fading as is the bright red warning box.
Was all that 'essential' expenditure all those years ago actually 'essential'?
