Looking at both sides
Our (current) PM says there is no border between Scotland and England. We crossed it twice today on our drive to see my oldest friend in Fife. Her husband is in a care home so she lives alone. Now that Scotland is a bit less locked down we ventured over the River Tweed to pay her a visit. It was a 5 hour round trip but so lovely to see her. We should have been walking on Gozo in May. Today we walked in the rain to the beach.
The blip is of Coldstream with the Tweed which forms the border between the 2 countries from just east of Kelso to just west of Berwick, and the bridge across the river. Though I have driven across it too often to count, I have never stopped to walk. There’s a plaque to say Robert Burns also crossed it on his first visit to England in 1787.
In 1982 an 11 year old girl was abducted as she walked between the village in England to play tennis in Coldsteam. She was raped then strangled and her body dumped in Staffordshire 250 miles away by a serial killer and paedophile.
