Deans Cottage

This is the oldest cottage on the Canterbury Plains - built by 2 Scots by the name of William and John Deans (from Kilmarnock) who chose this area in which to settle after looking around New Zealand for a suitable site to farm in the early 1840's. Today this cottage is in the midst of Christchurch city in the grounds of Riccarton House and Bush.
