Wasp Nest

PD knocked down this nest a few weeks ago and I've been saving it in a sealed jar.  More than enough time has gone by for it to be safe, so today was the day for dissection.  The first image is the complete nest.  The second is after I cut it open (it was amazingly sturdy).  The circle is around a larva in one of the cells.  The third is the larva.  I wish I could have gotten a better shot but I was too lazy but it was very tiny!  Many thanks to dbifulco for hosting Tiny Tuesday's this month!

I saw the doctor this morning and he checked my knee lump.  He agreed that it is a hematoma and said it isn't unusual for it to continue to swell for a few weeks.  He said there's nothing to worry about but the lump will probably take months to go down all the way.  He compared it to a bruise that's a few millimetres under the skin.  A bruise usually takes about a week to reabsorb.  The hematoma is 2 inches around and about an inch deep so there's much more blood to reabsorb and will take much longer.   He said to go back to exercise and biking as soon as I feel like it.  It won't make it worse (unless I fall on it again!).  So, I am reassured and will now stop worrying about it!  Yay!

I am grateful that I was comfortable with the doctor and felt I could trust him.  I decided I'm going to stick with my previous doctor, though.  I really prefer a female a she is really wonderful.  I used to work very close to her office and drove there every day for 10 years so I think I can manage the drive. :-)
