Lake Matheson Reflections

We wanted to do something different today after the excitement of the Fox Glacier, and so a visit to Lake Matheson and Gillespies Beach was our target for the day.

Lake Matheson is a short 6 km drive from Fox village, and on arrival we immediately set out on the Lake Matheson walk which takes you right round the lake. The normal time for this journey is 90 minutes, but for Paladian and I with frequent photography stops, it took us 3 hours.

The walk can provide unsurpassed reflective views of Mt. Cook and Mt. Tasman, but due to the low cloud, this view was not possible.

Pointing my camera in the general direction of Mt. Cook, I captured this very interesting reflection scene which turned out to be my blip of the day.

We then journeyed on to Gillespies beach through a magnificent 21 km of temperate rain forest. Shot a bit of video of the journey, and some interesting photos during our beach walk.

However nothing could top the scenes from Lake Matheson.
