Late Afternoon Sunshine

I started work quite early today.  That was a mistake.  I spent nearly 8 hours on the phone trying to fix things.  Not for me.  But for other people.  And that meant that I was talking and talking and talking.

And while I was talking and taking and talking, I was researching things and trying then trying to decipher error messages.  

Every time I finished a phone call, I went away from my desk.  And EVERY time I came back no more than 5 minutes later there was "missed call from" message.  And quite often while I was on the phone I would get a chat message "Can you call me when you have a minute?".  Sometimes from up to different 4 people.

Exhausting.

The problem is that we are responsible for some software but we are not the people who maintain it.  There was some maintenance at the weekend and various things were updated.  

We knew nothing about it.  All of these changes should have made no difference to the user.  As always.

And as always, there were LOADS of problems.  And I get the phone calls when that happens.  The "what did YOU change?" phone calls.  I changed nothing but lets try to figure it out.  

I may be have to write a Blog article telling people how to fix certain specific problems but that will just encourage people to think EVERY problem is now my responsibility.

I'm going block out my calendar.  I can't spend every day on the phone.
