Sunrise behind Pukekaroro

Continuing to improve each day, I am having no difficulty riding to and from work. Its only a short ride, fortunately. Nevertheless, its good to be able to do it without much effort.

As I rode through the gate from Park Road into the Auckland Domain (along the western portion of the tuff ring of the volcano known to Maori as Pukekawa) I could see the sun rising behind trees on the remnants of the volcanic cone (Pukekaroro) which sits in the middle of an old lava lake. Much of that level ground has become sports fields; cricket in the summer and rugby union football in the winter. Some Association football is played on the eastern part of the old lava lake.

In March I explored Pukekaroro on a lunchtime walk, finding and photographing the totara tree planted by Princess Te Puea. That is hidden in this photograph by the trees on the souther end of the cone remnant.
