Treading on Thin Ice

This isn't as dramatic as it looks. This is a vernal pool we frequent, and with the cold weather, it is mostly solid, but near the shore it all froze up in such a way that there is no water underneath it, so it isn't very supportive or thick. Loki decided to be brave today and stepped out on it. He took a couple of steps and fell through! He was very embarrassed (as best I can tell) and shimmied on to the ice a bit farther, where it was supportive and just stood there, looking rather sheepish. Corra came running over, all concerned for her best bud, and told him all about it - but from the safety of the shore. Though she eventually built up the courage to go get a stick that was pretty far out. Loki, encouraged by Corra's shenanigans on the ice, happily started trotting aroun on the middle bit (once again, the deepest this ever gets is maybe a foot, so I wasn't concerned). But he did not want to go near the shore, as it cracked every time. I had to go in and help him safely exit the ice ;) (I, of course, broke through every where I walked! What a beast!)

Nice little adventure on the ice - preparing us for this weekend's snowstorm/blizzard fun. They are predicting we'll get about 2 ft ... I sure hope they are wrong! I am making a roast chicken dinner tonight and I will be making some homemade chicken soup with the leftovers - the perfect meal for a snowy day!
