Not a Breath of Air

Dear Diary,

This is my new garden ornament which is supposed to twirl with the breeze but it is not moving now.  There is not a breath of air.  Yesterday was barely tolerable but today it will be over 34C.  I will go out early and water the new plants before the sun reaches them.  I can't help but think of my grandparents in the age before refrigeration and air conditioning.  They still had a farm to tend.  They did outdoor chores very early in the morning, kept all windows shut and the curtains drawn and moved as little as possible until the sun set.  Electric fans must have seemed like a miracle!  How lucky we are today.
