Poem: England

The sentiments expressed in this poem, which almost reads like an apology for empire, are very much 'of an era'. 

Lorna was just 16 years old when she wrote this poem, and had not yet developed into the woman that we know from the war diary entries of almost a decade later. (See also A woman's ode to England that we posted on 5th March 2020.)
