Here be dragons...
.... surely. This felt like iguana country, as if we had stumbled into the Galapagos!
After a morning of torrential rain, it cleared a little, we picked up Joe and headed for Wainui. The tide was way way out and thus you can walk almost to Taupo Point, sinking in pleasantly soft golden sand. We passed an exit route should the tide come in unexpectedly fast - a pretty vertical scramble up the cliffs, goodness knows where you ended up! We reached a cluster of mighty rocks, softened by little sandy inlets with huge views out to sea.The rocks seemed to be granite and there was a cave - inside were what we were sure were penguin footprint and penguin poo! The whole place felt other worldy and remote. We've been twice before each time quite different.
