The Hunted, the Hunter and the Dancer
I spent way too much time trying to get some extreme closeups of tiny flies in the yard this morning. I followed this very small House Fly Musca domestica around for a while and then turned my attention to the Blue Long-legged Fly Condylosty mounds. Both were exploring the same plant but were careful to make sure that their paths didn't cross. Suddenly, an Eastern Pondhawk showed up! It settled briefly on a dead leaf and the fly guys took off and didn't return while I was watching. Such Insect Drama! The flies were practicing their evasive maneuvers while the Dragonfly was reviewing it's 'trivial pursuit' moves. They should all be ready when the AOG 2020 begin! In the *extra...a Stilt-legged Fly Taeniaptera trivittata was practicing what appeared to be either dance moves or an elaborate form of martial arts kata. I hope that your weekend is going well! :)
