Milking the aphids

The old Xmas tree on the front lawn is covered in black aphids - but what I didn't realize is the ants on the tree were farming the aphids, protecting them from wasps trying to eat them. The aphids feed and consume nutrients, these get released by the ants milking them by stroking them with their antennae - isn't nature amazing!
