It's all a matter of light

20 years ago our house was renovated somewhat and halogen bulbs were fitted throughout the areas most used. Since then Dr D has changed all the transformers and fitted LED bulbs in their place. Recently  a couple of those over the kitchen bench  started to flicker and he replaced them . Disaster! The replacements he tried were a white light and had a limited spread  and even less penetration , so the engineer was unable to comfortably discern what she was preparing for the table ! Several options have since been tried ...bulbs, not engineers...and the available replacements are now almost acceptable. 
I  also asked him to replace those over the armchairs by the fire ...it's been a lengthy saga, but they too will now light a task almost acceptably.
I'm not fussy , truly. I just like to see what I'm doing.
