Delancey Park - Neolithic grave
My picture today is of a Neolithic grave situated in Delancey park and first escavated in 1919.
It is a gallery grave, which is rather like a corridor. It is the only one of its type in Guernsey, others being more of a passage leading to a wider chamber. The stones shown here are the side props which have fallen over. The cap stones have disappeared, probably taken by a quarryman in the past.
The site will not look like this for much longer. It is felt that the stones are becoming damaged situated as they are and therefore in the near future they are to be buried with just their top surface showing.
