Labour Of Love

2020 was going to be a ‘special’ year amongst the Veteran and wider community, a year of commemorations;
St Nazaire - Dunkirk 80 - VE75 - VJ75 and more.
All the days have slipped by, they have not passed unremembered but not perhaps with the ceremony they merited.
So for VJ75, or Victory Day as the older generation call it I decided to take the lead on the event. Unable to visit our local parish church during lockdown I asked one of the churchwardens to photo the WWII Roll of Honour panels and forward the photos on. I then contacted our nearest Royal British Legion Branch for a supply of wooden Poppy Crosses and today’s photograph shows me sitting in the sun writing the individual names onto the crosses.
Once they are complete on the morning of the VJ75 commemoration event I shall place them in alphabetical order, laid out so that they form the shape of a cross. They will be there for the event, scheduled for 11:00 and then for any families claiming a cross to leave their own message or to take the cross home.
