House Finch

This picture is a combination of boredom and the fact that I feel I have taken pictures of every plant and flower and stone in this garden at least twice! This little finch seemed willing to pose for me, and I played around with the camera and the processing for lack of anything better. I liked the colors and the painterly effect of this result .

After basting Stephanie's quilt together (backing, batting, and top) which involved crawling around on the floor for portions of two days I decided I'd had enough and didn't want to even attempt to quilt something this big myself. My hands, knees and back agreed with this decision. I got hold of a quilter who said that although her usual current turn around time is four months, she would do us a favor and get it done by the 28th if I could get it to her before the weekend. Oh, and the three parts have to be separate. It seems that making quilts is right up there with making sourdough bread and hoarding toilet paper as lockdown activities. So tomorrow I will be taking out all the basting so painfully put in so that I can deliver it to her Friday morning at 11.

After months of having no deadlines and no appointments, we now seem to have quite a few...mostly appointments we postponed almost four months ago and rescheduled for now. All non-essential services have once again been shut down.

It's ironic that Covid-wise things are much worse now than they were then. There are ten times more cases a day now than there were back in March. The U.S. in general, and California in particular have the dubious honor of having the highest number of cases in the world, yet testing is still hopelessly slow, taking a week or two to get results. By then the results are pretty meaningless. This is putting us squarely in the camp of many third world countries.

I'll catch up on comments once the quilt has been delivered....
