Tree surgeon (amateur)

At the bottom of my garden is dense little band of bushes and trees, immediately behind which is a sharp drop of a few yards down to the back garden of the house behind mine. I'm no expert but I suspect these plants - or, more specifically, their roots - stop any erosion of the hillside.

Obviously these plants grow upwards as well as downwards and the taller plants are near the back. For many years these were managed (somehow!) by my back neighbour's gardener but he is no longer available to do it. We said we'd take care of it but the plants in question are behind a lot of small trees and bushes.

The Minx found a solution, yesterday, when she bought what is best described as a chain saw on the end of a long, heavy rod, which we put into action today. It was a long but ultimately satisfying job and I reckon we took a good metre off the troublesome plants at the back whilst thinning out the bushes and trees near the front.

To be honest, it's not often that I achieve anything practical, so I came away from the day feeling rather pleased with myself :-)
