Another Day, Another Musing

Monday, and it fairly whistled past. Income Tax self-assessment, FC Dev Co annual accounts submitted. And at either end of the day, pontoon duty!
So, MrP, what big trite thoughts have filled your tiny brain between-times?
Aha. A new Polish Presidenté. Same as the old Presidenté. It helps when the state media and judiciary is stuffed with his cronies of course. That’s ze old problem with democracy - those who proposed it had originally had to counter the argument that it would result in the unchecked tyranny of the majority; (aka the rise of the populist demagogue in modern parlance). And only through the establishment of the famous ‘checks and balances’ (ie a free press and judiciary) could it persist. 
And now of course, leaving aside such obvious demagogues as Putin and Erdogan, we have the leader of the democratic world, a certain Mr Trump, up for re-election. The man who commuted the sentence of Stone, correctly convicted of obstructing a congressional investigation. As I discovered in the evening's viewing,  a man in cahoots with the National Enquirer to actually bury unhelpful news stories. As Richard Schiff (Toby Ziegler) said, we think we have a system of checks and balances.. what is being proved is that the system is actually just based on faith and tradition. Worrying times.
