Saltaire Church

After being all miserable with the weather and unenthusiastic about Saltaire yesterday I returned in the sun today for a quick stop in transit to a lunch time meeting.

Sir Titus Salt moved his 5 mills and their employees to this purpose built village in Victorian times, the roughly square miles it occupies is a combination of mills, park, boathouse, school, hospital and homes. Running water and wider streets and bathhouses meant this was together an amazing development for the working classes. Being a man of faith of his times there were no places serviing alcohol, even today there are only 2 pubs on the edge of the development one at the Boathouse the other at Fanny's, a fine alehouse where local blippers have been know to meet.

This view of the Church is the view from the factory gates and this being the first thing the workers saw as they left their long arduous shift was intentional.
