Still hanging around!
Much to my surprise, and delight, at least one of the red-headed woodpeckers is still hanging around our backyard buffet. When I captured his picture today, he was high up on the trunk of one of the very tall trees in our backyard. The green needles behind him are on an evergreen tree our granddaughter Carrie brought home from school on Arbor Day approximately 30 years ago. Carrie's tree was a tiny seedling the day she brought it home from school and chose that corner of our backyard to plant it; today it is much taller than any of us. The other tree, the one holding the woodpecker's suet cake, was already tall when we bought our house nearly 50 years ago. It may just be a meaningless expression, but it is also true: time really does fly when you're having fun.
