The iron well

A regular walk for us, circular, fab views and interesting. The iron well in the village where we start and end the walk is a spring fed by water from the moors and has seeped through iron rich rocks. It is said that in the 1940s mother’s with babies were encouraged to drink a glass a day. Just up from the well is the entrance to a lead mine, used to take the ponies down a spiral incline and deep into the mine. The hill we walked up has a number of ventilation shafts for the mine visible.
No rain but a cool breeze on the higher path. Lunch watching a farmer moving his sheep further down.
Lots of grouse, which fascinated Hetty.
