HANGING BASKETS

Got up early as I was expecting a couple of parcels.  They came before noon.  Then at 12.30pm it was time for the football.  Newcastle were playing away at Watford.  The match was being shown on Amazon Prime which I don't have but you could have free access to the match via TWITCH.  So I settled down to watch on my PC..

Good start by Newcastle and they were one nil up at half time. But in the second half they just threw the game away to a Watford side who are fighting to stay in the Premiership.  Watford were awarded two penalties - and their captain Troy Deeney scored both times. So the final score was Watford 2 Newcastle 1.

Before the match Neil had said he would like Watford to win.  As he is a big Newcastle fan I asked him why.  Well ... its all to do with Aston Villa who are also struggling to stay in the Premiership at the moment.  A win for Watford would mean there is more chance of Villa going down.  Newcastle fans hatred of Villa stems from May 2009 when Newcastle were relegated to the Championship on the final day of the season ..... by Villa. Seems as though a lot of Newcastle fans - Neil included - aren't willing to forgive and forget.  All that sort of stuff passes me by I must say. I would have preferred Newcastle to win today.  Good job they are safe this season and don't need the points as that's two defeats in a row.

After the match I walked down to the village.  The weather was warmish but I still needed a jacket. Did some shopping and took my blip shots just outside Tesco. A few years ago the Council opted out of maintaining the flower beds, tubs and hanging baskets around the village so since then the planting has been taken care of by volunteers.  They do a great job of keeping the village looking lovely.  They aren't in charge of the hanging baskets though - as you can see they are full of knitted flowers.  The work is done by local ladies.  The baskets have recently been changed over - the old faded flowers were removed and new ones put in. There are about 24 hanging baskets around the shopping area - all as pretty as these three.. Its a great idea as they look lovely  - and of course there's no need to water them.
