Spot the watermelon

Big day all round today. Out watering in the morning, I spotted this and wondered who'd left a ball in the garden - but it is in fact a watermelon! We then found two others. Given how often the plant is watered, it seems extraordinary to me that they got this big (6 inches across) without us spotting them.

The proper exciting news of the day was waiting for CarbBoy's brevet result - I had clearly done a poor job with my advance calculations, as the actual result was much better than expected and a happy surprise for everyone!

Then frantically playing catch up with all the work I've been ignoring while working on a big thing, and - much later than intended - champagne to toast the kids and discussion of exam prizes!
