To 4 unknown German airmen

We went for a walk west of Winchester this afternoon and were so bust talking we missed the right turn and ended up on a longer route.

On the return section we came across this commemoration stone for 4 unknown German airmen. The plane, a German bomber, a JU 88, was shot down one to two miles away, but controversy in 1950 about an appropriate location for a memorial led to it being placed at Hoplands.
