GO!

It's been all go at work this week. The office servers were unbelievably sluggish on Wednesday morning and we suspected that this was an indication of a sea-change. Sure enough, during that afternoon we received a message from the decoration at the top of the tree that we had indeed cut the cord and were now breathing independently.

New and urgent tasks have been flying in and out of the drawing office all week and it has seemed that for the most part these requests have come from businesses wanting to impress our new overlords with up-to-the-minute presentations. I have been able to twist some of these requirements for my own purposes. For example;

On Monday a client wanted a satellite image of his site laid beneath his general arrangement drawing and during the course of our discussions it became apparent that his desk space is only a matter of strides from that of another client who has been failing to approve a submitted drawing for MONTHS. So OK, yes, I will make your entirely unnecessary but very sexy drawing for you right now if you will go and tell Wotsit over there that I am on the brink of raising a complaint.

Magic!

Other requests were less entertaining, those came from sections who knew that they would be made to stand in a corner to explain why they were not shining stars. It seems quite obvious to me. If one were to imagine the company as a whole as though it were a sponge cake, with jam in the middle and icing on the top, then the normal way to cut that cake would be vertically. But that is not the way it has been done, it has been sliced horizontally and the jam layer is being applauded while the base sponge layer is expected to justify its failings.

Hey ho! Hopefully sensible changes won't be too far away, so in my own time I made this.

I am taking some annual leave for a week beginning this evening – actually travelling beyond Medway for the first time in four months. I spotted the downstairs gardener watering his plants and so asked him if he would kindly take in my little capsicum for the duration and he has agreed.

Nothing left to worry about.
