Filmy ferns

My friend Lyn has a wonderful knowledge of NZ flora and NZ birds and is always pointing out something I would have never have noticed otherwise.  This little filmy fern is one of those. In the summer or when it is dry the fronds curl up and look quite dead, but when it's cooler and wet as it has been much of the week they come alive and unfurl. They are very delicate, are almost translucent and are really quite beautiful.  These fronds are about three inches long at the most and were covering much of the trunk of the tree.
