Last Remanant

Grange Road station closed on the 2nd January 1967; I travelled on the last ever passenger train!

Its place is now taken by a parade of shops; its previous use is reflected it the name of the new Road "Old Railway Close". Station Road still exists! Curiously the station is named after the nearby Grange and although the modern village has been built up around the former station the ancient heart of the village is about a mile away.

There is but one other reminder of the former station, this fence post. It is typically Southern Railway. You can tell by the pyramidical top and the 12 holes. Most line side fencing only required 8 strands of wire, but where you had livestock all 12 would have been used.

Its now been incorporated into someone's garden fence.
