A last minute photo of a section of my garage wall. These number plates existed pre 1925 in New Zealand. Car owners were given a code for their area and allotted a number then had to make their own plates. This explains the variety of designs. The oldest on my wall is A385. A for Auckland our largest city. This plate is dated around 1905. The only pair I have ASH2461 come from Ashburton and are dated around 1920. There is a convenient hole in the front plate for the crank handle.
