Life in Newburgh on Ythan

By Talpa

A rather spectacular moth.

Whilst out for my paper this morning I came across this Swallow-tailed Moth - Ourapteryx sambucaria hanging on a garden hedge.

According to Prof Google "being strictly nocturnal and having quite a short emergence period from late June and throughout July, this moth is not often encountered by the non-enthusiast." The species is quite rare up here in the North of Scotland.
