More freedom
After the lifting of the 5 mile travel restriction, which we've basically kept to, bar one trip to the Pentlands a few weeks ago, it was time to spread our wings. Back to another of our happy places, East Lothian. A good walk from Whitesands Bay to Skateraw and back, broadly in sunshine most of the way. I've put beachlife Scottish style in the extras. No particular danger of a Bournemouth type situation arising here. Oh, and exceptional cloudage.
We popped into Dunbar afterwards, thinking to find a pavement cafe as today was the day they were allowed to open. No luck there, although I found a small garden centre shop where I got a new plant mister, as the one I bought at B&Q the other week has fallen apart. Mr A suggested we try the Smithy at Tyninghame, a place we've enjoyed visiting before. It is, anyway, basically an outdoor cafe. It's apparently been open for about 3 weeks, but today was the first day they put out their chairs and tables. I wouldn't say it was heaving, but on a nice Monday in July it was certainly pretty busy. We had coffee and bacon rolls, which tasted wonderful *because neither of us had to cook them*. They need to sort out a way of not creating so much waste as everything is in takeaway styrofoam containers, disposable coffee cups and paper bags. All organised with perspex screens and most staff in masks, and I tapped my card on the card machine *through* the perspex!
Back home, I worked in the afternoon, so there's little else to report. But who needs that on the first day we properly escaped from Edinburgh.
Happy days!
