Miners' Memorial, Allerton Bywater

Went for a lovely walk with friends, setting off on the Linesway from Kippax and taking in the Millenium Village at Allerton Bywater along with the Miners' Memorial. 
The colliery at Allerton Bywater in West Yorkshire closed in March 1992. In its 117-year history 87 men and boys lost their lives at the pit.
The memorial, a sculpture in the shape of a mining cage, was designed by local artist and former miner Harry Malkin.
We took a short break on the banks of the Aire before making our way, following the embankment and then back to Kippax. Fortunately, the weather stayed dry for us.
