This isn't ours but whilst I toiled wearily away Nicky was pointing at walls and asking a bloke how much it would cost to make them less manky by means of plaster, replace the ceiling and also rip out the strange lowered portion of the kitchen ceiling (one-ninth of which previously housed the header tank for the old central heating but the rest of which does bugger all) which isn't likely to get done at any time soon if we do it ourselves. I'd be relatively happy replacing plasterboard on a wall or ceiling which had previously been constructed with plasterboard but where lath and plaster is concerned I do not wish to be directly involved. Unfortunately it means I shall lose the nice mottled plaster backdrop-wall opposite me though an extra couple of layers of plasterboard, no gaps between the wall and ceiling and a nice thick layer of fibreglass or fibreglass equivalent should help to muffle Mrs Thumpy above which will come in handy next year when various "Cmooaoooaan!" noises can be heard on weekend afternoons during that rugby competition thing. Similar precautions above the bedroom ceiling when we get round to getting Mrs Thumpy to cough up for the large hole her inadequate bath-shower boundary waterproofing caused (or at least failed to protect against) should help to prevent the sound of her clopping feet stopping me getting to sleep.

Anyway, not ours but someone else in the building is getting their own lath-and-plaster replaced with moderner materials.
