Hillview from Lahaina

This place is something else. I have never seen anything like Maui. I could never have imagined it.

Today we drove about an hour west, to Lahaina. West Maui is warmer and less windy than where we are in the north, ideal for sunbathing and swimming and (for the novice) - surfing! H and I took a beginners' lesson in surfing and they guarantee you'll be riding a wave by the end of your lesson. And we were! Small and low waves, but nonetheless. Coming from Finland where surfing only exists on TV, I never thought I would be doing such a thing in my life. It was GREAT!

As we were waiting for the waves to build up, looking over the shore, the scenery was stunning. As is the case everywhere on the island.

It's been raining slightly today and we've seen numerous rainbows driving back up.
