Spoilt for choice
Thank you for the kind words on my words yesterday, slowly something is taking shape.
A lazy start after a bad night, but managed to get the paving slabs all levelled (or as close as they're going to be) ready for next week's possible mancave mkII construction beginning.
Rewarded ourselves with a wander in a local reserve.
I think it must be relatively rare to use the phrase "a carpet of orchids" but that's the best way I can describe how fabulous it was. As hoped we managed to find two new to us wild orchids, I'll let you guess from the common names which is which.
Epipactis palustris the Marsh Helloborine. Apparently not nationally rare as it has several strongholds. Well this must be one as the display went on for hundreds of feet. Fabulous, a strong contender for most beautiful UK orchid.
Ophrys insectifera the Fly Orchid. Is possibly not a contender for most beautiful, but is definitely the best adapted to a specific purpose - attracting certain insects (in the UK just two types of wasp fly) to pollinate it.
