Bits and Bones

Today's the day ……………………… to find

These are some of the animal bones and teeth, bits of pottery, clay pipes and the like that we found last year on the Tongland Abbey Archaeological Dig.

Each one will have been carefully logged with details of which trench it was found in - and at what depth - so that a picture can be built up of what was going on around the Abbey through the centuries.  Today, Jenny was carefully cleaning each one to show it at its best - and hopefully pick up any details that might have been missed when it was covered in soil.

And the extra is a jubilant Roger, proudly showing off a piece of worked stone - perhaps from a doorway - that he had come across in the course of the day …………………….
