Opening Up
The Meadows were looking particularly attractive this morning after yesterday’s rain, with its grass cut and the lack of people. It was fairly early and any people around seemed to be queuing to get into the tennis courts rather than lazing about on the grass.
I thought to walk round the streets in the locality to see which non essential shops were open and was surprised that so many were still very shut. There are a lot of small shops in the area and I do wonder how many of them will ever open again. There are also a great number of charity shops which remain closed at a time when so many of us have realised during lockdown how few changes of clothes we actually need while our wardrobes are full to bursting with outfits for every obscure occasion.
There was another rush of blood to my head this morning which resulted in my dismantling a storage area on the wide floor level window ledge in my kitchen and committing the hidden detritus to the bucket and reorganising the area. If I had only had the same impetus at the beginning of the lockdown I might have had the house looking immaculate. Still better late than never.
With another warm sunny afternoon , I see that the Meadows are now beginning to attract groups of young things who can’t count past 8 and who certainly don’t know what 2 metres looks like. Please let it not be like last week and there will be some policing to avoid another rabble.
I feel this semi isolation is turning me into the woman played by Imelda Staunton in ‘Letters’ broadcast on BBC1 in ‘Talking Heads’ by Alan Bennett. I should get out more.
