GREEN ACRES
This classic truck is parked in front of GREEN ACRES, our only meat market. We affectionately call it "the smokey place on the road,"
because they have a huge charcoal grill out front where they cook area favorites like Santa Maria Tri Tip, beef & pork ribs & barbecued chicken.
Our city is not a culinary destination, which was an adjustment for us, when we first move here. After a few years we have forgotten about white table clothes & now line up to eat Tri Tip sandwiches, just a few feet from the road. The smoke adds ambiance & the barbecue sauce is home made.
This time last year, we stumbled across other out-of-the-way, locally owned places like The Santa Susana Grill, that was once a
stage coach stop & now has killer breakfast. Tio's Cafe was once
a deli, but now has is a piled high club sandwich with home made salsa. During the wet Covid-19 Spring I craved pho from Pho So-!, a kind of hearty Vietnamese rice noodle soup with chicken, fresh basil & bean sprouts. I take a pass on the hot peppers. The ambiance is airport practical, but the soup & crusty sandwiches are the main attraction..
The COVID-19 cases are increasing in our county, so I am still anxious about going to an indoor restaurant. I need to be satisfied driving by, & remembering how much we enjoyed eating at these restaurants.
Some day....
