Water in the boots and sodden socks !
Today’s mission was to try out a new walk with a view to repeating the walk tomorrow with our grandson Arthur and his parents. We were thinking it would do us all good to see somewhere new and include a picnic too.
The weather forecast was for thundery showers but we thought we would chance it . The area we visited , as illustrated in the photo is the ridge we can see from our usual daily , local walk . The ridge looms over the Hodder valley to the north and the Ribble valley to the south. It’s the part of England’s green and pleasant land that inspired Tolkien to write The Hobbit and then Lord of the Rings .
We parked up , took the photo of the ominous sky and then on hearing the approaching thunder decided to sit out the storm in the car . Torrents of water fell, lightening flickered and thunder roared .
Once the storm had passed over we had a lovely walk over heather and bilberry moorland with a fair number of ground nesting birds still in residence . Storm number two arrived and as we were just starting our descent we got well and truly soaked !
Tomorrow’s weather promises more of the same so probably not ideal for this particular family outing , will choose somewhere closer to home . It’s a long time since we have had such a soaking - water in the boots and sodden socks .
