HalfChristmas

We were both pretty sad as Katie's amazing summer collapsed around her. So quite a while ago I took the decision that we would celebrate halfChristmas this summer! It have her something to look forward to and thankfully quite a few of our family and friends embraced our quirkiness- we were sent cards, we had friends join us for Carol singing in the garden and we had a big family games night on zoom.

The day started at a fairly acceptable time. Katie had no idea half Christmas would include her new tree I bought in the January sales that she'd never seen. Or that she'd get more than a token stocking filler or two. Or that the garden would be decorated.

She spent about 90mins decorating her tree, after opening one present at my encouraging. We had pancake breakfast, with her still wearing a fluffy hat. We made mince pies, she built a lego set. And watched a Christmas show. We made crackers. We Amused the neighbours with our Carol singing. Our visiting friends surprised Katie with a gift of a Harry Potter invisibility cloak.

We then watched a second Christmas movie while I cooked Christmas Dinner in the crazy hot. We played Michael bublé all day. We finished her little pile of presents. At 639 my family humoured me with scavenger hunts, Christmas challenges, quiz rounds and scattergories.

It was a weird day, a fun day, a day we would never have celebrated in a non-pandemic situation... But it was a special day. So hurrah!
