Lone tree
Reaching
lone tree
does your shadow reach blindly blue
feeling for limbs and trunks no longer near ?
fleeting fingers keening to touch bark and branch
you alone
hold their stories, the whine of spitting saws
thudding echoes on farmers fields long gone
memories of horse and plow shaded
safely beneath your leafy boughs
single giant
surrounded by fields now teeming with
running children playing at organized games
do they ever long to embrace you?
fleeting fingers keening to touch bark and branch
For the Record,
This day came in with a fresh coating of fluffy white and bitter, biting cold.
