Hintisberg

We wanted a bit of a lazy day, but still do some exploring in Berner Oberland, so decided to go back to a place I went climbing 25 years ago, and Mr S 30. The road climbs up steeply 1000m from Lütschintal to Hintisberg at over 1700m. You have to pay 10 CHF at the restaurant at the top or the bottom. This was already a surprise, the restaruant Berghaus Hintisberg at the top has only been there for 15 years! There is also another hut to stay/eat in up the Sägisental, Berghaus Männdlenen, which is also new. It used to be a place where weavers used to live, at 2344m.
You can see the rock face of Burg up here, it was very difficult, and I don't remember even getting off the ground! Another surprise was the long tunnel through the rock, just below here, that gives road access to the Schynige Platte railway and restaurant at the top, and this was only about 10 years old apparently. We just had a walk through the tunnel, which goes steeply down through the rock and was pretty cool and windy. And of course it goes without saying, the view to Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau are really good from up there, and into the Grindlewald glacier.
