PINK VISION

Whilst this is a cultivated, domestic orchid I wanted to try different backgrounds to this image. Whilst favouring a black background for a real contrast, I have been so impressed by many fellow blippers who have used white backgrounds to such great effect - click here for a sample from NickyH.

So here we have a vision in pink for your delectation !

Charles Darwin, in a letter to the Director of Kew Gardens, wrote 'I was never more interested in any subject in my life, than in this of orchids'.

Orchidaceae make up the largest family of flowering plants, with over 26,000 species known and 100 - 200 new species being discovered every year.
Orchids are found on all continents with the exception of Antarctica. They are only absent from open water and true deserts. Some orchids live on the ground, while the majority grow perched on trees (epiphytic) or on rocks (lithophytic).

Thank you for all my comments yesterday - another image on the challenging journey to 500 and beyond !
