Before the strimming

We have a small patch of grass right at the bottom of the garden where our raspberry bushes are and which has now been a bit overrun by mallow, daisies and wonderful grasses.  I think Mr Sk is going to strim down there tomorrow so thought I'd take a few photos before that happens.

It was full of life but also very hot and my photographic assistant Ivy kept scaring the insects away so there was a lot of waiting around in the heat for them to resettle!  There were wasps collecting wood from the fence for their nests, tiny little crickets hopping about, the odd bee and then this obliging hoverfly came along too.  I love the way its feet are covered in tiny spheres of pollen from the mallow.
